Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

The Fair Labor Standards Act is set of federal laws that offer numerous protections and benefits to employees. These protections include a minimum wage, maximum working hours, overtime pay, and prohibitions against child labor. Employers should familiarize themselves with the Fair Labor Standards Act, so as to avoid unnecessary confusion about their obligations to employees.

State law may add to, but may not lessen the protections afforded employees by the FLSA. Currently, South Carolina law does not add to FLSA protections, so the federal minimum wage and overtime requirements are controlling.
